In 2003 the late great Tony Donnelly focused me on the Biological farming philosophy that is Nutrilink. I was always intrigued by the masses of clover on Nutrilink farms and the focus on animal health through the soil 24/7.
Today I farm in partnership 150ha of sheep & beef land on Te Puke Hill Country and operate my Nutrilink business from home.
Raised on a dairy farm at Waitoa and schooled in Te Aroha. Attended Massey University and gained my B.Agr Science degree and made many lifetime friends.
I have been happily married to Illane for 26 years We are blessed with 3 awesome children all at university studying hard. Hope so!
Using my Degree
My first jobs were technical advisory field roles, with Elders and Turners & Growers. After 6 years of technical, and a growing family I went back on the land and milking cows.
With more questions than ever I joined BOP Fertiliser in 1993 for 12 years as a Technical Field rep including my final 2 years with Ballance Agri Key Accounts. This role saw me advising large farming operations in many parts of the Nth Island. I have since been back to Massey for Fertiliser and Lime conference and to get certified in Sustainable Nutrient Management.
I have a diverse Nutrilink client base in Drystock, Dairy, Deer, and Kiwifruit around the central Nth Island. I love working with my clients to get results, especially healthy stock. No one has all the answers, but there are lots of crops, pastures animals and farmers giving constant feedback, there to be monitored and improved on.
The ability to read the situation is an intriguing challenge and it's a privilege to be invited to help.
I am a Committee member at Te Puke squash club handling Sponsorship, and Chair the BOP Farming for profit group through Beef & Lamb NZ.
I love hunting, golf, playing the guitar, and watching rugby league I like red wine, good food and physical work. I enjoy being Dad and helping my kids take on the world.
